The Bear Trap Inn is a quaint supper club located off County Road B known for fine steaks and seafood. We are famous for our garlic stuffed tenderloin (GST), pan seared walleye, and the Bear Trapeze. Owner Tom Baertschy believes in honoring past traditions; such as displaying nearly 100 pumpkins during Halloween, filling the pond with trout, and showcasing flowers from local businesses. Over the years The Bear Trap Inn has supported local businesses and organizations to stay connected to the community. Tom has introduced new events to the Northwoods such as Farm-To-Tables, the Cast Iron Classic, and private parties.

 

The Bear Trap Inn was established in 1937 by John Bloomquist and Wm Freytag as Messabe Loge. In 1940 Matt and  Margaret Udovc took over as Club 3300, and later became The Hacienda (1945-1955)  owned by Harold and Ruby Hansen/ Frank and Ann Korosec. The last name leading up to The Bear Trap was The Wanigan from (1955-1973) famously owned by Bob and Piney  James/ Wally and Vi Becker. The longest running owners, Dick and Katie Bucht took over in 1973 and created  a favorite spot for broasted chicken and bbq ribs. Dick and Katie’s daughter Kris Sarama and her husband, John took over The Bear Trap in 1993 and  transformed the supper club into a restaurant known for the finest steaks and seafood in Land O’ Lakes. Tom purchased The Bear Trap Inn from The Hammes Family who owned this staple from 2003-2014. The building has remained the original structure but continues to grow in history.

 

In 2014, Tom Baertschy became the proud owner of the Bear Trap Inn. Hailing from a family of restauranteurs, Tom has used his years of experience to put his personal touches on this fine establishment. He is a graduate from Northland Pines High School and spent his youth in Northern Wisconsin. His family formerly owned The Colonial House and Baertschy's Pine Gables. When he turned 18 he moved to Madison to continue his education and experience in the restaurant industry. At the age of 26 Tom opened a restaurant, 8 Seasons in Madison, WI. He now lives in Land O' Lakes, WI year-round with his wife Madison and their two dogs.

Madison joined the team in 2018 after graduating from The Ohio State University. Although born and raised in Spring Gove, IL, she always had roots in Land O' Lakes, WI spending summers with her Grandparents at nearby cabins. Madi spends  most of her time behind the bar, as well as managing events, merchandise, and social media. 

 

The Baertschy's continue to gain experience by traveling around the world discovering new recipes to use at the Bear Trap Inn - look out for menu items inspired by recent travels.
